Nothing brings the Gospels to life like a Catholic Holy Land Pilgrimage Tour to the Holy Land and Jerusalem. During the course of the pilgrimage tour, you will walk in the Footsteps of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and the Apostles, visiting and celebrating daily Mass in the most important Shrines and Basilicas of Christianity. You will visit the Basilica of the Annunciation, where the Angel of the Lord appeared to the Virgin Mary, and she professed her Magnificat. You will visit Bethlehem and celebrate the birth of Christ at the Church of the Nativity.  During this Holy Land Pilgrimage tour, you will have the opportunity to renew your baptismal vows at the Jordon River and your wedding vows in Cana, where Jesus performed His first Miracle. You will spend two days around the Sea of Galilee where Jesus began His ministry, preaching to thousands as He gave His sermon of the Mount of Beatitudes, and miraculously fed the multitudes with fish and loaves of bread. The highlight of the Holy Land Pilgrimage Tour will be in Jerusalem where you will pray in the Garden of Gethsemane and experience the Lord’s Passion along the Via Dolorosa, (the Way of the Cross) on the way to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre which marks the place where Jesus was put to death on Calvary, and was buried and rose again! Visits to Mount Tabor,  Sepphoris, Bethany, and Jericho are just some of the other places that you will visit on this Holy Land Pilgrimage Tour. Some of today’s highlights are a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum to see the synagogue and St Peter’s house, a visit to the Mount of the Beatitudes where the Sermon on the Mount was given, to Tabgha to see the splendid mosaic about the miracle of the loaves and fishes, and to the nearby Church of Peter’s Primacy where Peter was told: “Feed my lambs, feed my sheep.” There will be an unforgettable Mass near the shores of the Sea of Galilee at the Primacy or Mt Beatitudes. In the afternoon visit Caesarea Philippi, location of the testimony of St. Peter and where Jesus answered him “You are the Rock and upon this rock, I will build my Church.”  Dinner and overnight at your hotel in the Galilee.

Day 5Jordan River, Mt Tabor, Sepphoris

Day 6Jerusalem, the Holy City and Bethlehem the Nativity - Mt Olives, Church of Visitation, Shepherd’s Fields, Church of the Nativity

On the first day in Jerusalem, you will be presented with an overview for a better understanding of its geography and some of the key sites surrounding the area. This includes a dramatic view of the Old City from the Mount of Olives, revealing a city with 4000 years of history. From this vantage point see much of what makes Jerusalem such a unique city to the three major religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Then head to the village of Ein Karem, the birthplace of St John the Baptist and to the Church of Visitation where the Blessed Virgin Mary visited her cousin, Elizabeth, and proclaimed the ‘Magnificat’. In the afternoon we drive to Shepherd’s Fields where the angels announced the birth of Jesus. Then visit the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem that stands upon the site where Jesus was born. Mass in Bethlehem or the Shepherds Fields. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.

Day 7Jerusalem: The Passion of Jesus' Last Hours: - Bethany, Mt Olives, Palm Sunday, Dominus Flevit, Gethsemane, Cave of Betrayal, Cave of Assumption, Pater Noster

Begin our day with a visit to Bethany where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Then onto the Mt. of Olives to walk the Palm Sunday route stopping at Dominus Flevit, where Jesus wept over Jerusalem.  Then to Gethsemane, the Rock of Agony where Jesus prayed His last prayer before his arrest. Visit the cave of betrayal then the cave of Assumption of Mary to heaven.  Back on the Mt of Olives, we visit the Pater Noster with the Lord’s Prayer in many languages and the Ascension from where ascended to Heaven.  Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.

Day 8Stations of the Cross, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, St Anne’s Church. Ecce Homo, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Wailing Wall, Upper Room, Dormition

Early in the morning, the group will retrace the last steps of Jesus. Then walk along the Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrow), through the markets of the Old City praying the Stations of the Cross, reflecting on the greatness of His sacrifice. Finally, we arrive at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Mass.  After breakfast at our hotel, return to the Old City of Jerusalem to visit St. Anne’s Church, the home of the Virgin Mary, and her parents Saints Joachim and Anne. Pass the Ecce Homo where Pilate proclaimed “Behold the man”; then the Wailing Wall, the holiest place for those of the Jewish faith.  Nearby is the Dome of the Rock and the Haram al-Sharif or Temple Mount, exit at Mt Zion. At the Cenacle visit the Upper Room of the Last Supper. Next, go to Dormition Abbey where it is believed that the Blessed Mary died, end the day at St. Peter in Gallicantu where Peter denied Him thrice.  Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.

Day 9The Wilderness: Bethany, Jericho, Mt Temptation, Dead Sea

The desert east of Jerusalem is rich in the Christian tradition. Further east, just off the Roman road that Jesus ‘walked’, is Wadi Qelt gorge, site of the Monastery of St George. At the oasis town of Jericho, visit the excavations of the oldest city in the world and view Mt. Temptation where Jesus fasted and was tempted by Satan. On the way back there is time for a swim (or rather a float!) in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea, renowned for its healing properties. In the afternoon, there will be time for you to revisit some of your favorite sites and time for last-minute buying of gifts for your loved ones.  Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.

Mr. Hyland,

Thank you for the wonderful trip to the Holy Land that your company organized. The guide was excellent, the places we visited put me in contact with the places that Christ walked, and the accommodations were great.

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks to Catholic Journeys for planning a fantastic pilgrimage to Israel! I am so fortunate to have been able to experience it with you all. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better group of folks to travel around Israel on a bus for 11 days with!

Here is my email address. As I mentioned, I’d love to be included in the email chain when you email out everyone’s contact info. Hope you had a great time as well!

Couple Traveller

Dear Jimmy,

It was great to meet & travel with you on our trip to the Holy Land.

Sherm & I want to thank you for organizing such an incredible Pilgrimage.

To answer your question, there is nothing either of us would change (except for more hours in the night to catch some zzzzzz’s)

The itinerary following in the footsteps of Christ & His Mother Mary really helped in my understanding of His/Her life on earth.

I continue to feel my faith deepening… a rebirth..

As for Sherm (a secular Jew), he said “I’m no convert but I was touched by the richness of the Catholic tradition/ceremony.” I know he enjoyed this journey and was especially happy with the dining. : )

When Sherm finishes organizing his photos & finds anything exceptional, he’ll post.

We would be happy to share our great experience with Catholic Journeys with friends/family who are interested in traveling to the Holy Land or other religious sites.

Now, we’re heading to the gym to work off the incredible meals we had!

God Bless You, Jimmy

Jimmy,
Once again, the guys loved the Holy Land Pilgrimage. They especially raved about the tour guide (Said), the Notre Dame Conference Center in Jerusalem, and being in Bethlehem on Epiphany for the celebration of Christmas.
Thanks to you and Ann Marie for your work in facilitating such a blessed trip for the deacons.
It’s time to think about next year’s January Pilgrimage.
Thanks; blessings!
