June 9 – Warsaw

After breakfast, explore the Old Town of Warsaw, comprised of beautiful maze-like cobblestone streets and picturesque architecture that are symbols of Poland’s successful rebuild following its destruction during World War II. See the Market Square which is the center of the city filled with restaurants, cafes, and shops, the Barbican, defense-like structures rebuilt following World War II, and the Warsaw Ghetto monument commemorating the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943 during World War II. Visit the Shrine of Saint Faustina in Warsaw with Mass located at 3-9 Zytnia Street where Faustina entered the convent. Dinner and overnight in Warsaw.

June 10- Gietrzwald

Depart Warsaw for the village of Gietrwald, located in northeast Poland. It was here that Our Blessed Mother appeared to two young girls with the message to pray the Rosary zealously for Conversions, as penance for sins, and so that orphaned churches may find priests. This is the only approved Marian apparition from Poland. Celebrate Holy Mass and tour the Basilica of Our Lady of Gietrzwald. Dinner and Overnight in Gietrzwald area.

June 11- Lichen Stary

June 12- Niepokalanow – Czestochowa

Here we will have mass before continuing on to Niepokalanow to see a Franciscan Friary founded by St. Maximillian Kolbe and home of the Basilica of the Virgin Mary. The next stop is the site of Poland’s greatest pilgrimage shrine, Our Lady of Czestochowa. Dinner and overnight in Czestochowa.

June 13- Czestochowa – Wadowice – Zakopane

This morning you will have Mass and visit Jasna Gora Monastery with the image of the Black Madonna. It is one of the most important places of religious worship in the Christian world, with a tradition of pilgrimages that goes back to the 14th century. Three popes have visited the Jasna Góra Shrine of Our Lady: John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis I. The group will celebrate Mass at the Pauline Monastery and venerate the priceless treasures contained within, including the Miraculous Icon. Next travel to Zakopane, with a stop along the way in Wadowice, the birthplace of Karol Wojtyla. Visit the house where the Pope, John Paul II, was born. It has since been turned into a shrine-like museum. You will also visit the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the church he attended and was baptized as a child. Next, continue to Zakopane, a resort village nestled in the splendor of the Tatras region and a favorite spot for Pope John Paul the Great. Dinner and overnight in Zakopane.

June 14- Zakopane

This morning we take a cable car ride to the nearby mountaintop for extraordinary views, and have the option to ride in a horse-drawn carriage. Zakopane and its vicinity is a mountain folklore reserve, with many pearls of typical wooden architecture. You will have the opportunity to walk a short distance on one of John Paul II’s many walking trails of the region, beautifully within a valley of the Tatras Mountains between Gubalowka and Giewont. Admire picturesque landscapes of Polish highest mountains and visit the Hermitage of St. Brother Albert, founder of the Albertine Order in Kalatówki. Enjoy a short walk along colorful Krupowki Street for some last-minute shopping in the local bazaar before dinner and overnight in Zakopane.

June 15- Wieliczka – Krakow

En route to Krakow, there will be a stop at the Wieliczka Salt Mines a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Wieliczka Salt Mine is famous for its intricate salt carvings, chapels, statues, and underground lakes, including the renowned St. Kinga’s Chapel, with it’s magnificent Altars and Chandeliers made of salt. Upon arrival in Krakow, settle in, then perhaps take a short stroll in the old city before or after your dinner. Dinner and overnight in Krakow.

June 16- Krakow – Auschwitz

After breakfast explore Market Square and hear the silver trumpet of the bugler from St Mary’s Basilica Tower. Within the Basilica you may pray before the extraordinary Wit Stwosz altar. The surroundings of the square have remained unchanged for almost 700 years and contain buildings of historic value such as St. Mary’s Basilica with the famous wooden altarpiece, the Town Hall Tower, the Cloth Hall, and the burgher’s houses.

Tour the Wawel Cathedral, Coronation Chapel, and the Royal Chambers where a superb collection of Arras tapestries is on view. In the afternoon you will visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, the notorious Nazi concentration camp which has the most visited museum in Poland. You will see the cell that imprisoned St. Maximillian Kolbe and the Martyrdom Museum recalling the horrors of the Holocaust. Pope John Paul II canonized the conventual Franciscan Friar in 1982 and declared him a Martyr of Charity. Recall that in 1998 Pope John Paul II also canonized Carmelite nun St. Edith Stein who was martyred here as well. Also known as St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, she is now a Patron Saint of Europe.
