We recommend purchasing travel insurance immediately upon booking your pilgrimage.  This way, you are eligible for coverage for any covered unforeseen illness or injury that might cause you to cancel your trip.  Even if airline tickets have not been issued or the airline is unknown, insurance can still be purchased, and the airline can be listed as “unknown” on the insurance application.  See the links below.
