Monday, October 5 – Day 1
Depart for Tel Aviv Begin your pilgrimage to Israel as we depart for the overnight flights to Tel Aviv.
Tuesday, October 6 – Day 2 Tel Aviv – Overnight on the Mediterranean Coast
Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport. Exit the terminal at the sign marked groups and meet your local Catholic guide who will escort you to your hotel on the coast. Dinner and overnight.
Wednesday, October 7 – Day 3 Galilee: Wedding Church in Cana – Nazareth – Basilica of the Annunciation – Mary’s Well
Today you will travel to Cana, the village of Jesus’ first miracle of changing water into wine; here at the Wedding Church couples may renew their wedding vows. Continue to the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth where the group will celebrate Mass and visit Mary’s Well and the Church of the Angel Gabriel. Dinner and overnight in Nazareth.
Thursday, October 8 – Day 4 Boat ride – Sea of Galilee – Capernaum – Mount of Beatitudes – Tabgha Loaves & Fishes – Church Peter’s Primacy
Some of today’s highlights are a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum to see the synagogue and St Peter’s house, a visit to the Mount of the Beatitudes where the Sermon on the Mount was given, to Tabgha to see the splendid mosaic about the miracle of the loaves and fishes, and to the nearby Church of Peter’s Primacy where Peter was told: “Feed my lambs, feed my sheep.” There will be an unforgettable Mass near the shores of the Sea of Galilee at the Primacy or Mt Beatitudes. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Nazareth.
Friday, October 9 – Day 5 Mt Tabor – Sepphoris – Jerusalem
Start the day by driving to Mount Tabor, where you will have Mass and have time to reflect on Christ’s divinity at the sight of the Transfiguration. Continue to Sepphoris, a regional city at the time of Jesus. Drive down through the Jordan Valley on the way to Jerusalem. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.
Saturday, October 10 – Day 6 Jerusalem the Holy City – Bethlehem the Nativity – Mt Olives – Church of Visitation – Shepherd’s Fields – Church of the Nativity
Then head to the village of Ein Karem, the birthplace of St John the Baptist, and to the Church of the Visitation where the Blessed Virgin Mary visited her cousin, Elizabeth, and proclaimed the ‘Magnificat’. In the afternoon we will drive to the Chapel of the Shepherds’ Fields where the angels announced the birth of Jesus. Then visit the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem which stands upon the site where Jesus was born. Mass in Bethlehem or the Shepherds Fields. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.
Sunday, October 11 – Day 7 Bethany – Mt Olives – Dominus Flevit – Gethsemane – Church of the Pater Noster
Begin our day with an overview of Jerusalem for a better understanding of its geography and some of the key sites surrounding the area. This includes a dramatic view of the Old City from the Mount of Olives, revealing a city with 4,000 years of history. From this vantage point see much of what makes Jerusalem such a unique city to the three major religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Here we will visit the Church of the Pater Noster with the Lord’s Prayer in many languages and the Ascension from where ascended to Heaven. Afterwards we will travel to nearby Bethany where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Return to the foot of the Mount of Olives to visit the Garden of Gethsemane and the Rock of Agony, located in the Church of All Nations where Jesus prayed His last prayer before His arrest. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.
Monday, October 12 – Day 8 Stations of the Cross – Church of the Holy Sepulchre – St Anne’s Church – Ecce Homo – Western Wall
Early in the morning, the group will retrace the last steps of Jesus. Then walk along the Via Dolorosa, or Way of Sorrow, through the markets of the Old City praying the Stations of the Cross, reflecting on the greatness of His sacrifice. Finally, we arrive at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is the site of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection, for Mass. Visit St. Anne’s Church, the home of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and her parents Saints Joachim and Anne. Pass the Ecce Homo where Pilate proclaimed “Behold the man”; then the Western Wall to pray for Peace at the holiest place for those of the Jewish faith. Nearby is the Dome of the Rock and the Haram al-Sharif or Temple Mount. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.
Tuesday, October 13 – Day 9 Jericho – Mount of Temptation – Baptismal Site at Jordan River – Dead Sea
The desert east of Jerusalem is rich in the Christian tradition. Further east, just off the Roman road that Jesus walked, is Wadi Qelt Gorge, the site of the Monastery of St George. At the oasis town of Jericho, visit the excavations of the oldest city in the world and view Mount of Temptation were Jesus fasted and was tempted by Satan. Visit the site where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist along the Jordan River, and afterward enjoy a swim. or rather a float in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea, renowned for its healing properties. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.
Wednesday, October 14 – Day 10 – Mt Zion – The Upper Room – St Peter in Galicantu – Dormition Abby
This morning you will travel to Mount Zion, to visit the Cenacle and the Upper Room where Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with His disciples. During this meal, Jesus instituted the Eucharist transforming bread and wine into His Body and Blood and gave it to His apostles, instructing them to repeat this consecration in remembrance of Him. Visit the house of the High Priest Caiaphas on where we see the dungeons in which Jesus was imprisoned. Also known as the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, it marks the place where Peter denied Him thrice. Visit Dormition Abbey where it is believed that the Blessed Mary was assumed into heaven. This afternoon you will have free time to visit the old city on your own to pray at the Holy Sepulchre, or shop for souvenirs and religious articles. Enjoy Farewell Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Thursday, October 15 – Day 11 Return Home
Your Holy Land and Jerusalem pilgrimage comes to an end. Today you will board your flights home.
