Itinerary for Medjugorje & Zadar Pilgrimage Tour

Day 1 – Depart the USA

Board your overnight transatlantic flights from the USA.  Meals are served on board.

Day 2 – Split – Zadar

Arrive in Split where you will be greeted by your tour guide who will then take you on the 2-hour scenic drive along the coast by private motorcoach to Zadar, which was once the largest city fortress in the Republic of Venice. Like Dubrovnik, it is situated along the beautiful Adriatic Coast and showcases ancient city walls and extraordinary examples of Roman, Byzantine and Venetian architecture. dinner and overnight in Zadar.

Day 3 – Zadar – Medjugorje

After breakfast at the hotel, we will begin our tour of Zadar with stops at the 9th-century, Byzantine-style, Church of St Donat, and Zadar’s 12th-century cathedral with it’s three beautiful portals and a bell-tower affording far-reaching views. However the highlight of the day will be a visit to St. Simeon Church, which was built in the 17th century and houses the remains of Zadar’s Patron Saint. St. Simeon’s incorrupt body is contained within an ornate silver casket, depicting scenes from the saint’s life, crafted by Zadar silversmiths in 1381. Each year on October 8th, the saint’s feast day, the casket is opened and St. Simeon’s body is put on public display. However, today, our group will have the privilege of viewing the incorrupt body of St. Simeon in private, with time for prayer and devotion. After time for lunch on our own, we will proceed to the village of Medjugorje, with our guide recounting the story of Our Lady’s Apparitions along the way. Once there, we will have dinner and be introduced to our host family in whose modern and comfortable house we will be staying in for the next six nights.

Days 4 to 8 – Medjugorje

During your stay, you will experience the beauty and peace of this simple village and have the opportunity to share your faith with pilgrims from all over the world. Here are some of the activities planned for the week:

Daily Mass: Each morning, at 10:00, am (noon on Sunday), the group will assemble at St. James Church for Mass and the blessing of religious articles immediately following.

Climb Apparition Hill
: Recite the Rosary while climbing the hill to the place where the visionaries first allegedly encountered Our Lady.

Climb Mt. Krizevac (Cross Mountain)
: In 1933, the villagers built a 30′ high cross atop a mountain to commemorate Jesus’ passion and death on the cross. Climb to the top, stopping 14 times along the way to rest, and Pray the Stations of the Cross.

Apparitions
: Join the villagers and fellow pilgrims in praying the Rosary in St. James Church at 5:00 pm (6:00 pm Daylight Savings Time), and stay for the alleged apparition of Our Lady to the visionaries at 5:40 pm (6:40 pm Daylight Savings Time). Stay for the Croatian Mass the Blessing of the Sick immediately following.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
: Our Lady has always called us to be close to Her Son. Join fellow pilgrims for Adoration on Tuesday and Saturday at the outside altar of St. James Church, and for Veneration of the Cross on Friday inside the church. Adoration is also available in the Chapel every afternoon.

Meetings with the Visionaries
: Pending their availability, the guide will arrange meetings with the visionaries.

Visit to the Community of Cenacolo
: Founded by the Sisters of Charity, Cenacolo is a community for young men and women who have lost their way in life and are on the road to recovery. We will hear their inspirational words about their journeys back to Jesus Christ.

Prayer at the Statue of the Risen Christ
: Pray at the bronze statue located on the grounds of St. James Church, and witness the droplets of water that miraculously seep out of Christ’s right knee.

Day 9 – Medjugorje – USA

After an early breakfast, you will leave by motorcoach for Dubrovnik Airport (Spilt or Sarajevo) for your return flights home.
