Day 1 – Tuesday – April 30 Depart USA –

CAIRO:

Day 2 – Wednesday – May 1 Arrive Cairo – Afternoon arrival, visit Dominican Priory. Continue to Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Thursday – May 2 Full Day – Excursion in Morning / Lecture / Evening Event

  • Morning: Mosque Visits: Ibn Tulun Mosque / Citadel of Cairo also known as the Citadel of Saladin (Mosque of Muhammed Ali)
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon: Guest Lecture
  • Evening: Dinner at Hotel / Rest

Day 4 – Friday – May 3 Full Day – Lecture in the Morning / Excursion in the Afternoon / Evening Event

  • Morning: Guest Lecture
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon: Manuscript Museum
  • Evening: Egyptian BBQ

Day 5 – Saturday – May 4 -Full Day – Excursion in the Morning

  • Morning Islamic Cairo, including a visit to Khan el-Khalili, the famous bazaar, and souq in the historic center of Cairo
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon: Guest Lecture
  • Tonight you’ll enjoy a performance of Whirling Dervishes.

Day 6 –Sunday – May 5 — Full Day – Morning Mass – Orthodox Easter – Afternoon Pyramids

  • Morning:  Attend Easter Mass at Saint Virgin Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, also known as the Hanging Church one of the oldest churches in Egypt.
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon: Pyramids: Visit the Sphinx and Famous Pyramids at Giza, Dashur, and Sakkara.
  • This evening you will enjoy a boat ride on the Nile.

ROME:

Day 7 – Monday – May 6 –  This morning transfer to Cairo airport for the flight to Rome. Upon arrival, enjoy a panoramic tour of the city en route to your hotel.

Dinner and overnight in Rome.

Day 8 – Tuesday – May 7

  • Morning Begin with Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter, the first Pope and Bishop of Rome, was martyred. You will have time to pray at the Tomb of Pope John Paul II and see Michelangelo’s Pieta and Bernini’s bronze canopy.
  • Lunch: on your own.
  • Afternoon: In the afternoon, travel along the Appian Way to the Chapel of Domine Quo Vadis, the Dominican church that marks the place where Peter encounters Jesus. See the stone with the imprints “of His holy feet” before continuing on to the catacombs of St. Callixtus.  Visit the Basilica of St. Paul, outside the walls, the burial place of Saint Paul the Apostle.   
  • Evening:

Day 9 – Wednesday – May 8 – Full Day

  • Morning: Begin with Mass and a visit to the Basilica of Santa Sabina, the Mother Church of the Dominicans, and the adjacent convent where St. Dominic and many other saints and popes resided over the centuries.

  • Afternoon: visit the  Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI)

  • Guest Lecture / Prayer Service / Wrap-Up with Sharing
  • Evening: Dinner at Hotel

Day 10 – Thursday – May 9  Full Day

  • San Clemente
  • St. Peter in Chains
  • Lunch: on your own
  • Evening / Night: From here, enjoy a walking tour visiting the Trevi Fountain and the Piazza Navona.

Day 11 – Friday – May 10 –

  • Morning: visit the Coliseum, followed by the Basilica of St. John the Lateran, which is also the Cathedral of Rome. Across the street, you will visit and have the opportunity to climb the Holy Stairs, the very steps Jesus stepped leading up to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate on His way to trial. Visit the Basilica of St. Mary Major, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and contains a relic from the Manger of the Infant Jesus.
  • Afternoon: Free / Shopping / Etc. / Pack Up
  • Dinner at the hotel.

Day 12 – Thursday – May 11

Return to the USA.
