November 2-16, 2018

Proposed Itinerary

Nov 2 - Depart Los Angeles for Amman

Nov 3 - Arrive Amman. Meet your local guide and transfer to your First Class Hotel. Overnight in Amman.

Nov 4 - Amman, Baptism Site, Mt Nebo, Madaba This morning you will begin with a panoramic tour of the capital city, Amman. From here you will head south visit to the Baptismal site of John the Baptist, near the Jordan River which was re-consecrated in 2000 during the visit of Saint John Paul II. Drive up out of the Jordan Valley and from the summit of Mt. Nebo, view the "Promised Land" as Moses did. Nearby Madaba is home to a beautiful sixth century mosaic of Palestine, possibly the oldest existing map of the Holy Land. Continue traveling south along the Kings High-way to Wadi Musa for dinner and overnight.

Nov 5 - Full Day in Petra -
A visit to Petra is indeed an adventure. From the town of Wadi Musa you will walk through the rose colored canyon to Petra, a city dating back to 300 B.C., which was literally cut into the cliff sides. You can also take an optional a horse/donkey cart ride through the Syk. You will have plen-ty of time to tour the various temples, the Amphitheater, the Monastery, the Streets of Columns, and the Treasury. Dinner and overnight in Petra.

Nov 6 - Jerash, Um Qais - Today you will travel north to Jerash. Jesus came to the ‘land of the Gerasenes’ and like Pella, Amman and Gadara it was one of the cities of the Decapolis. Explore the beautiful Graeco-Roman city of Jerash (in the Bible Gerasa) with its temples, streets of columns, theatres and even from a later time church-es. From here you will visit Um Qais (probably Gada-ra) from which the swine rushed down to the Sea of Galilee. From here there is a wonderful view over the Sea of Galilee. Drive on to cross the Jordan River via the Sheikh Hussein Bridge into Galilee. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

Nov 7 - The Ministry of Christ in the Galilee: Boat ride, Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, Mt. Beatitudes, Caesarea Philippi. - Some of today's highlights are a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum to see the synagogue and St Peter's house, a visit to the Mount of the Beatitudes where the Sermon on the Mount was given, to Tabgha to see the splendid mosaic about the miracle of the loaves and fishes, and to the nearby Church of Peter's Primacy where Peter was told "Feed my lambs, feed my sheep." Visit Caesarea Philippi, location of the testimony of St. Peter and where Jesus answered him “You are the Rock and upon this rock I will build my Church.” Dinner and overnight at your hotel in the Galilee.

Nov 8 - Mt Tabor, Cana, Nazareth – Begin with a drive to Mount Tabor, scene of the Transfiguration. Then drive to Cana, the village of Jesus' first miracle of changing water into wine; here couples may renew their wedding vows. Continue to the Basilica of Annunciation in Nazareth where you will celebrate Mass and visit Mary's Well and the Church of the Angel Gabriel. Dinner and over-night in Galilee.

Nov 9 - Sepphoris, Mt Carmel - We begin the day by visiting Sepphoris, a regional city at the time of Jesus. Then on to Mukhraka where Elijah confronted the false prophets of Baal and where the Carmelite Order was started. Din-ner and overnight in Galilee.

Nov 10 - Caesarea, Jerusalem - Travel down the coast to Caesarea, where the Romans held Paul prisoner and visit the Roman and Crusader ruins. Continue on to Jerusalem, a city with 4000 years of history. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

Nov 11 - Ein Karem & Bethlehem - Journey to the village of Ein Karem, the birthplace of St John the Baptist and to the Church of Visitation where the Blessed Virgin Mary visited her cousin, Elizabeth, and proclaimed the 'Magnificat'. In the afternoon we drive to Bethlehem to visit the Shepherd's Fields where the angels announced the birth of Jesus. Then visit the Church of the Nativity that stands upon the site where Jesus was born. Mass at the Church of the Nativity. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

Nov 12 - Mt Olives, Dominus Flevit, Gethsemane, Cave of Betrayal, Cave of Assumption, Pater Noster, Western Wall, Upper Room, Dormition - Travel to the Mt. of Olives and take in the dramatic view of the Old City. Here we will visit the Pater Noster where the Lord’s Prayer is carved in the walls in many languages, and the Chapel of the Ascension from where Jesus ascended to Heaven. Walk down along the Palm Sunday route stopping at Dominus Flevit, where Jesus wept over Jerusalem. Then to Gethsem-ane, the Rock of Agony, where Jesus prayed His last pray-er before His arrest. Visit the cave of betrayal, then the cave of Assumption of Mary to heaven. In the afternoon, we will visit the remains of Western Wall of the ancient Temple of Jerusalem. Nearby is the Dome of the Rock and Temple Mount. From there you will visit the House of Caiaphas and see the dungeon where Jesus was impris-oned after His arrest. Also called St. Peter in Gallicantu (which means “cockcrow” in Latin), this is the place where Peter denied knowing Jesus three times. Dinner and over-night in Jerusalem.

Nov 13 - Stations of the Cross, St Anne’s Church. Ecce Homo, Church of the Holy Sepulchre - In the morning you will retrace the last steps of Jesus as you walk along the Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrow), through the markets of the Old City praying the Stations of the Cross and reflecting on the greatness of His sacrifice. Visit St. Anne’s Church, the home of the Virgin Mary and her parents Saints Joachim and Anne, and pass the Ecce Homo where Pilate proclaimed “Behold the man!” Finally you arrive at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Mass. There will be time for prayer in this sacred place that covers the site of the Crucifixion, and the place where Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jerusalem.

Nov 14 - Bethany, Jericho, Dead Sea - Begin the day with a visit to Bethany where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead before continuing on to the oasis town of Jericho to see the excavations of the oldest city in the world and to view Mt. Temptation where Jesus fasted and was tempted by Satan. Visit Qumran, where the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered and continue on to the Dead Sea where you will have time for a swim (or rather a float!) in the mineral-rich water, renowned for its healing properties. Return to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Nov 15 - Israel Museum, Emmaus, Tel Aviv, Jaffa - Visit the Israel Museum where you will see a scale model of the Second Temple and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Then travel to Emmaus where you will visit the Church of Emmaus and see the remains of the road on which the risen Christ walked with two of his disciples. Afterwards you will have a city tour of Tel Aviv and visit the port of Jaffa where you will visit to St. Peter’s Church, the single largest and most distinctive building in Old Jaffa. Enjoy a Special Farewell Dinner in Jerusalem. Late night transfer to the Airport.

Nov 16 - Return to USA – Early morning connecting flights to USA.
